The EBRD will support in the advancement of Kazakhstan's mining industry

Kazakh Minister of Industry and Construction Kanat Sharlapayev and First Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Jürgen Rigterink signed a memorandum of understanding on May 16 to develop and modernize Kazakhstan’s mining industry, reported the EBRD’s press service.

The agreement establishes a more contemporary and advanced system for capturing, processing, and distributing geoscientific documents, such as maps and data.

As a pivotal component of the European Union-Kazakhstan critical raw materials roadmap and in alignment with their strategic partnership, this document will propel Kazakhstan forward in developing the legal and regulatory frameworks within the mining sector.

The involved parties will also bolster the ministry's capacity to adopt, implement, monitor, and enforce regulations within the sector.

As part of the EBRD's commitment to the responsible exploration and mining of critical raw materials, the memorandum is in line with the bank's recently approved mining strategy by its shareholders.

The EBRD intends to escalate investment in the mining of critical raw materials crucial for the green transition, including for the production of wind turbines, solar panels, lithium-ion and electric car batteries, traction motors, heat pumps, and similar equipment.

The bank underscores the importance of producing these raw materials in an environmentally friendly, sustainable, resilient, and circular manner.(Source:astanatimes)
