Container Traffic on Middle Corridor Doubles in May

Kazakhstan’s national maritime shipping company Kazmortransflot reported a record monthly volume of container transportation along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), commonly known as the Middle Corridor.

According to the company, 7,451 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) were transported on the Aktau–Alyat (Baku) route during the month, more than doubling the 3,359 TEUs recorded in May 2025.

The increase reflects growing demand for the Middle Corridor, which serves as a key trade route connecting China and Central Asia with European markets through the Caspian Sea, the South Caucasus, and Türkiye.

Kazmortransflot stated that the record result was achieved through more efficient cargo distribution among vessels operating on the route, including the container ships Barys, Berkut, and Sunkar, as well as the dry cargo vessels Turkistan and Beket Ata. The expanded deployment of vessels enabled more frequent sailings between Aktau Port in Kazakhstan and the Port of Alyat in Azerbaijan.
