Chinese Tourist Arrivals in Kazakhstan Surge 78%
Kazakhstan welcomed 655,000 Chinese tourists in 2024, marking a 78% increase, Tourism Industry Committee Chairman Nurtas Karipbayev announced on Feb. 6. The surge follows Kazakhstan’s designation as China’s official tourism destination, aiming to generate $300 million in revenue.
Over 200 agreements were signed with Chinese partners, while major media campaigns reached 1.3 billion people. Key events included tourism fairs, cultural exchanges, and influencer-led promotions. Almaty emerged as the top destination, with Astana promoted for business and medical tourism.
Following the successful initiative, 2025 has been declared the Year of China’s Tourism in Kazakhstan.
“In terms of the number of booked trips, Kazakhstan rose from 40th to 29th place in the list of popular countries among Chinese tourists,” Karipbayev said.
