Chinese companies increase their presence in Kazakhstan
Chairman of Kazakh Invest National Company Yerzhan Yelekeyev met with representatives of large Chinese companies to expand investment cooperation during his working visit to China on Oct. 22, reported the Kazakh Invest’s press service.
During a meeting with Fufeng Group Chairman Li Xuechun, Yelekeyev discussed the development of a vertically integrated industrial park for deep corn processing with a capacity of 500,000 tons annually and 1,000 job opportunities. The project includes starch and amino acid plants, a coal-fired thermal power plant, and a wastewater treatment facility. Fufeng is currently seeking a land plot.
Yelekeyev also met Dr. Liu Guoyue, CHN Energy’s chairman, to discuss a coal chemistry project requiring at least $4 billion in investment. In September, CHN Energy’s technical team assessed Kazakhstan’s coal deposits for material analysis.
Jiang Yi, chairman of China Huadian Corporation, provided updates on a $190 million, 160-megawatt combined-cycle gas plant in Mangystau, with construction starting this year and completion by 2027. Huadian is also exploring renewable energy projects and power plant modernization in Kazakhstan.
Wanlin Group Founder Li Yantao outlined plans for a $30 million factory for dehydrated onions after successful test plantings in Kazakhstan’s southern regions.
Several other Chinese companies, such as Sichuan Lomon Corporation and Dalian Hesheng Holdings, are exploring wheat processing projects in Almaty and Akmola, potentially totaling over $2 billion in investments.
Shanghai Shanyuhai Investment Group is progressing with a $200 million mining and processing plant in Almaty, expected to create 500 jobs by 2025.
Talks with Beijing Jianlong Heavy Industry Group focused on building a steel production cluster, while Beiqi Foton Motor is interested in a commercial vehicle assembly plant. Jiangsu Seraphim Power Development is exploring solar panel production in Kazakhstan, and Longbai Group is considering investment in a vertically integrated titanium production plant.
