Kazakhstan’s capital will host the Eighth Congress of the Leaders of World and Traditional Religions on Sept. 17–18 under the chairmanship of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The congress, a global platform for interfaith dialogue, is expected to bring together more than 100 delegations from around 60 countries, including distinguished spiritual leaders representing Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism, Hinduism, Taoism, Zoroastrianism, and Shinto. The event will also welcome representatives of international organizations, academic circles, and civil society.
Among the notable participants are Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb. The program will commence on Sept. 16 with the 23rd meeting of the Congress Secretariat, chaired by Senate Speaker Maulen Ashimbayev, and a special session of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations on the protection of religious sites.
