AI Becomes Mandatory Discipline in Kazakh Universities

Artificial intelligence has been introduced as a mandatory discipline in all universities across Kazakhstan, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Gulzat Kobenova announced on Aug. 28.

Currently, 93 universities have integrated AI into curricula, while 20 institutions launched 25 new educational tracks. Starting from this academic year, the Aisana project will provide students with hands-on AI training. To date, 390,000 students have completed specialized AI courses, with 3,000 receiving certificates.

The initiative aligns with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s call to position AI as a key driver of national development. One of the largest projects, Alem.ai, aims to establish an educational hub and startup campus, with plans to boost AI solution exports to $5 billion by 2029.
